Dr. MacIlvaine – Holistic Therapist &
Character Analyst in San Diego
Hi. I’m Mary Lou MacIlvaine, Ph.D.
I am a San Diego-based psychologist specializing in the holistic treatment of anxiety, depression, communication, and psychosis. I base my approach on how life energy moves or gets stuck in human functioning. People don’t mean to, but they block their own energy and get stuck as if in a trap. I work with people to relieve the underlying roots of emotional illness so people can get more satisfaction in life. People are part of nature.
I understand character, human nature, and the difficulties people get into. I’ve had tragedies myself and have learned from life, aside from my education and professional training. I have a deep understanding of human nature and nature in general. And I’m still learning.
Professionally, I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (CA 14409). I’ve been practicing since 1989 and began preparing for my practice in 1981.
I’m a member of Mensa. I use my intelligence holistically to integrate all our human faculties, especially the autonomic nervous system, our holistic connection with all life. Healthier autonomic functioning lets people live not just in their heads, but in their whole selves. It provides valuable emotional information for knowing what’s happening and making sound decisions. Some of the smartest people with the highest IQs can be among the most scared and tense about life. This is because very bright people more often use intellect to defend against threatening situations. In so doing, they get farther away from their biological cores.
Since receiving my Ph.D., I never stopped studying the mind body connection.
My private practice is located in Kensington, central to San Diego. My office is in a beautiful, tranquil setting.
I accept most Tri-care and Blue Shield insurance plans.
