Working just with words and concepts obscures biological realities of the organism. Whereas most psychotherapy focuses on troubled thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, functional thinking penetrates to the underlying energy stasis that results in these phenomena. It allows treatment from the simplicity of the deep biological level instead of the multifarious complexity of the more superficial (usually cognitive) psychological constructs. Character analysis releases held emotions from their frozen state in the character armor so they can flow freely from the depths to the surface.[i] Wrong thinking “collapses like a house of cards when the biologic energy starts again to function naturally.”[ii] “What moves is essentially the orgone energy with which the body fluids are charged. …The mobilization of the plasmatic currents and emotions, then, is identical with the mobilization of the orgone energy in the organism.”[iii] This gives patients a chance to escape from the irrational and deadening brain dominance of their heads.
